About the Canon IXY DIGITAL 30a
The Canon IXY DIGITAL 30a was released in March 2004. It is a compact with a 1/2.7-inch CCD sensor of about 3 megapixels and a 2x optical zoom covering 35-70 mm in 35mm terms. The short zoom range and small sensor reflect the early period of digital compacts.
The body measures 85.0 x 56.0 x 23.9 mm excluding protrusions and weighs about 165 g for the body alone. A 1.5-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT monitor offers 100% field of view. Recording goes to SD cards. Power comes from an NB-3L rechargeable lithium-ion battery, supplied with the camera, and the ACK900 AC adapter kit was sold separately. The 35 mm lens starts at a standard angle, so it suits portraits, table scenes and general snapshots. As a camera from the early digital era, it offers a simple operating experience and an image size suited to small prints and web use.
Buying one used
The camera uses an NB-3L lithium-ion battery, so check that it still holds a charge. Test the 2x lens movement, inspect the 1.5-inch monitor, and use an SD card to confirm that recording and playback work.
