About the Canon PowerShot SX100 IS
The Canon PowerShot SX100 IS, released in October 2007, is a compact-looking superzoom with a 1/2.5-inch CCD sensor of about 8 megapixels. Its lens reaches 36-360 mm in 35mm terms, roughly 10x optical, and the camera includes optical image stabilization to help at the long end.
The body measures 108.7 x 71.4 x 46.7 mm excluding protrusions and weighs about 265 g without batteries. Its shape includes a deep grip that makes it easier to hold steady than a slim pocket camera. A 2.5-inch TFT monitor provides 100% field of view. Power comes from two AA batteries, either alkaline or optional NiMH, with an ACK800 AC adapter kit available separately. Images are recorded on SD or SDHC cards. The camera fits users who want a long lens without moving to a larger body, and the AA power source is convenient while traveling.
Buying one used
The SX100 IS runs on two AA batteries, alkaline or NiMH. Check the battery compartment for corrosion, test the 10x lens extension and stabilization, inspect the 2.5-inch screen, and try an SD or SDHC card.
