About the Canon PowerShot TX1
The Canon PowerShot TX1, released in March 2007, is an unusual compact with a 1/2.5-inch CCD sensor of about 7 megapixels and a 10x optical zoom covering 39-390 mm in 35mm terms. The maximum aperture at the wide end is F3.5. The TX1 stands apart for its body, a vertical, camcorder-like shape rather than the flat slab of a typical pocket camera.
It measures 88.8 x 59.9 x 29.0 mm excluding protrusions and weighs about 125 g, which is light for a 10x zoom. The 1.8-inch TFT monitor has a wide viewing angle, with 100% field of view. Images are saved on SD or SDHC cards, and an NB-4L lithium-ion battery supplies power. ACK-DC10 and ACK800 AC adapter kits were sold separately. The 39 mm wide end is fairly narrow, so the TX1 is better for distant subjects than for rooms and landscapes.
Buying one used
The TX1 uses an NB-4L lithium-ion battery; check that it still holds a charge. Test the 10x lens extension, examine the small 1.8-inch screen, and confirm that an SD or SDHC card is recognized.
