About the Fujifilm FinePix J50
The Fujifilm FinePix J50 came out in January 2008 with a 1/2.5-type CCD of about 8 effective megapixels. Its standout feature is a 37-185 mm equivalent lens, a 5x optical zoom at F2.8-5.6.
The rear screen is 2.7 inches, and the body measures 96 x 55 x 23 mm at about 181 g. It takes the dedicated NP-40ND lithium-ion battery and saves to SD or SDHC cards. Covering landscapes and farther subjects with one small camera makes it a practical travel companion. The F2.8 opening at the wide end is relatively bright for a lens of this reach, and the 2.7-inch screen is large enough for comfortable framing at the full 185 mm reach, where small movements are magnified.
Buying one used
The battery is the dedicated NP-40ND; check runtime and whether a charger is included. Test the 5x lens extending and retracting, SD/SDHC card recognition, and the condition of the 2.7-inch screen.
