About the FujiFilm FinePix JZ500 (FinePix JZ505)
The FujiFilm FinePix JZ500 (FinePix JZ505) is a travel-oriented high-zoom compact released in February 2010. A 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor of about 14 megapixels sits behind a 10x optical zoom covering 28-280 mm in 35mm terms at F3.3-5.6, taking in wide views and distant subjects with one lens.
The body measures 97 x 57 x 29 mm and weighs 168 g, with a 2.7-inch monitor. The 29 mm depth is thicker than slim models because it houses the 10x zoom. Images go to SD or SDHC cards, and a Lithium-Ion NP-45A battery with a charger provides power. At 280 mm the aperture closes to F5.6, so camera shake and shutter speed deserve attention at the long end.
Buying one used
The battery is the Lithium-Ion NP-45A, so check the charger and charge life. Storage is SD or SDHC. With a 10x zoom, test that the lens extends and retracts smoothly without unusual noise, and inspect the screen.
