About the Nikon Coolpix L24
The Nikon Coolpix L24, released in February 2011, is a simple AA-powered compact with a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor of about 14 megapixels. Its 3.6x optical zoom covers 37-134 mm in 35mm terms at F3.1-6.7.
The wide end starts at 37 mm, narrower than the 28 mm or 24 mm of many contemporaries, so it frames people and objects more than whole rooms. The body is 98 x 61 x 28 mm and weighs 182 g, with a 3-inch monitor on the back. It takes two AA batteries and records to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards. The telephoto end stops at 134 mm, which keeps the lens simple and the body compact.
Buying one used
The L24 takes two AA batteries, so look for corrosion in the compartment and consider rechargeable NiMH cells. Storage is SD, SDHC or SDXC. Check the lens extension and the 3-inch screen on the actual unit.
