About the Nikon COOLPIX S10

The Nikon COOLPIX S10, released in September 2006, is a swivel-body compact with a 10x zoom. Its lens unit rotates, and it covers 38-380 mm in 35 mm terms, a 10x optical zoom at F3.5, in front of a 1/2.5-type CCD of about 6.0 megapixels.

The body measures about 112.5x74.5x40.5 mm and weighs about 220 g, body only. The screen is a 2.5-inch TFT panel. It uses the dedicated EN-EL5 lithium-ion battery and records to SD or MMC cards. Because the lens section turns separately from the body, the camera can be held and aimed in ways that a standard slab-shaped compact does not allow, and that handling is a large part of its character. It pairs an unusual shape with a long zoom range.

Buying one used

The battery is the dedicated EN-EL5 and media is SD or MMC. Because the lens unit swivels, test the rotation, the 10x zoom movement and whether a charger is included before buying.
