About the Pentax Optio M40
The Pentax Optio M40 arrived in July 2007 as a slim compact with a 1/2.5-type CCD of about 8 megapixels. Its lens covers 36-108 mm in 35 mm terms, a 3x optical zoom with an aperture range of F3.1-5.9.
The main attraction is the body, only 18 mm thick: 97 x 58 x 18 mm and 136 g, small enough for a shirt pocket. The rear screen is 2.5 inches, power comes from a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and images are saved to SD or SDHC cards. The 36-108 mm range is easy to use for everyday snapshots. Weighing only 136 g, it is light enough to carry every day, ready for quick shots at gatherings and on trips.
Buying one used
It uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. On a body only 18 mm thick, check that the battery door closes firmly, that SD or SDHC cards are read, and that the 2.5-inch screen displays cleanly.
