About the Canon PowerShot SX270 HS
The Canon PowerShot SX270 HS, released in March 2013, is a travel zoom built on a 1/2.3-inch BSI-CMOS sensor of about 12 megapixels. Its lens covers 25-500 mm in 35mm-equivalent terms with a 20x optical zoom, opening to F3.5 at wide angle and F6.8 at full extension. This allows landscapes, street scenes and far subjects such as signage, boats or stage performers to be framed from one position.
The body measures 106 mm wide, 63 mm high and 33 mm deep, and weighs about 233 g, a manageable size for a camera with this reach. A 3-inch monitor is provided for composition. It takes the NB-6L battery and stores images on SD, SDHC or SDXC cards.
Buying one used
Test the NB-6L battery for runtime, as zoom use drains it. Insert an SD, SDHC or SDXC card, run the 20x lens fully out and back checking for smooth movement, and examine the 3-inch monitor for scratches.
