About the Olympus Stylus 7040 (mju 7040)
The Olympus Stylus 7040 (mju 7040) is a compact released in January 2010. A 1/2.33-inch CCD sensor of about 14 megapixels sits behind a 7x optical zoom covering 28-196 mm in 35mm terms, with a maximum aperture that runs from F3 at the wide end to F5.9 at the long end.
Starting at 28 mm gives a comfortable wide view for interiors and street scenes, while 196 mm reaches out for travel snapshots. Because the aperture narrows to F5.9 when zoomed in, dim scenes are easier to handle toward the wide end. The body measures 95 x 56 x 26 mm and weighs 144 g, and it carries a 3-inch monitor. Images are recorded to SD or SDHC cards, and power comes from a dedicated rechargeable battery.
Buying one used
The camera uses a dedicated rechargeable battery, so check that a matching battery and charger come with it. Storage is SD or SDHC. Listen to the 7x lens extend and retract, and inspect the 3-inch screen for scratches.
