The Pentax Optio V20, released in May 2008, is a compact with a 36-180 mm equivalent lens at F3.5-5.6, a 5x optical zoom. It uses a 1/2.35-type CCD of about 8 megapixels and a 3-inch monitor.
Keeping the resolution near 8 megapixels leaves each pixel with more area than a higher-resolution chip of similar size would. The body is 98 x 57 x 24 mm and weighs 170 g. It runs on the dedicated D-LI78 lithium-ion battery and records to SD or SDHC cards. Starting at 36 mm, the lens is better suited to portraits and mid-telephoto snapshots than to wide landscapes. The 3-inch screen helps with framing at the long 180 mm end.
