About the Samsung WB1100F
Released in January 2014, the Samsung WB1100F is a long-zoom camera built around a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor with about 16 megapixels. Its lens covers 25-875 mm in 35mm-equivalent terms, a 35x optical zoom whose aperture moves from F3 to F5.9. That much reach suits distant architecture, birds, sports from the sidelines and moon-scale framing, while the wide end remains useful for general travel shots.
The size reflects the zoom: 125 mm wide, 87 mm high and 96 mm deep, and about 512 g, closer to a small bridge camera than to a pocket compact. A 3-inch monitor is used for composing. It runs on the SLB-10A battery and stores images on SD, SDHC or SDXC cards.
Buying one used
Confirm the SLB-10A battery still holds a charge, as long zooms drain it quickly. Check the 35x lens extends and retracts smoothly without grinding, test an SD, SDHC or SDXC card, and look over the 3-inch monitor.
