About the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80
The Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 was released in March 2016 as a compact superzoom. A 1/2.3-type BSI-CMOS sensor of about 18 megapixels sits behind a 30x optical zoom that covers 24-720 mm in 35mm-equivalent terms, with an aperture of F3.5-6.4.
The body is 102 x 58 x 36 mm and weighs about 245 g, so it is easy to slip into a bag for travel days. That reach is the main reason to pick it: distant signs, rooftops and animals all come within range without extra lenses, though the telephoto end works best in daylight. A 3-inch monitor is fitted, the battery is the NP-BX1, and recording goes to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards. It is an earlier member of the same Cyber-shot family.
Buying one used
Check the NP-BX1 battery condition and that a USB charger is included. Extend the 30x lens and listen for rough movement, look for dust inside it, and test the 3-inch monitor and SD slot.
