About the Canon PowerShot A100
The Canon PowerShot A100, released in April 2002 at 24,800 yen, is an entry-level compact with a 1/3.2-inch CCD. Its fixed lens is a 39 mm equivalent at F2.8 with no zoom, a modestly wide view that suits snapshots at arm's length to a few metres.
The monitor is a 1.5-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT. The body measures 110.0 x 58.0 x 36.6 mm and weighs about 175 g without batteries or card. It runs on two AA batteries, which avoids any dependence on a proprietary rechargeable pack, and recording goes to CompactFlash Type I cards. As an early digital compact built around AA power and a single focal length, it follows a very simple operating idea, and the low resolution is best suited to small prints and screen viewing.
Buying one used
Runs on two AA batteries, so look for leakage in the compartment. Media is CompactFlash Type I: confirm that your card is recognized and that images save correctly. Check the fixed lens and the 1.5-inch monitor.
