About the Canon IXY DIGITAL 300a
Released in April 2002, the Canon IXY DIGITAL 300a offers a 1/2.7-inch CCD, a Large image size of 1600 x 1200 and a 35-105 mm lens in 35mm terms at F2.7, described as roughly 3x optical zoom. The zoom range reaches further into telephoto than on the smaller 200a.
The 1.5-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT monitor offers 100% coverage. The body measures 94.8 x 62.5 x 31.5 mm and weighs about 245 g without battery or card, noticeably larger and heavier than the 2x model released alongside it. A rechargeable lithium-ion pack, NB-1LH or NB-1L, supplies power, with the CA-PS500 compact power adapter sold separately. Recording is to CompactFlash. The extra bulk goes toward the longer zoom, making this the choice in the pair for portraits and general walking-around use.
Buying one used
Runs on the NB-1LH or NB-1L lithium-ion battery: confirm it charges and holds power, and see whether a charger is included. Media is CompactFlash, so test a card. Check the zoom lens travel and the 1.5-inch monitor.
