About the Canon PowerShot A300
Introduced in April 2003, the Canon PowerShot A300 uses a 1/2.7-inch CCD and a fixed 33 mm equivalent lens at F3.6, with no zoom. Still image sizes include Large at 2048 x 1536, two Middle steps at 1600 x 1200 and 1024 x 768, and Small at 640 x 480.
Its 1.5-inch monitor is an amorphous silicon TFT with 100% coverage, a different panel type from the low-temperature polysilicon screens used by later A-series models. The body is 110 wide, 58 high and 36.6 mm deep without protrusions, and weighs about 175 g without batteries or card. It runs on AA alkaline or nickel-metal hydride cells, with the ACK800 AC adapter kit sold separately. Recording is to CompactFlash. The simple fixed lens and everyday AA power make it an uncomplicated entry model.
Buying one used
Takes AA alkaline or nickel-metal hydride cells; look for corrosion in the compartment. Media is CompactFlash: confirm a card is recognized and written correctly. Check the fixed lens movement and the 1.5-inch monitor.
