About the Canon PowerShot A310

Released in March 2004, the Canon PowerShot A310 is a fixed-lens CCD compact built around a 1/2.7-inch sensor. Its lens is a single 33 mm equivalent at F3.6 with no zoom, so framing is done by moving your feet rather than turning a ring. Image sizes run from Large at 2048 x 1536 down through 1600 x 1200 and 1024 x 768 to Small at 640 x 480.

The 1.5-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT monitor has 100% coverage. The body measures 110.0 x 58.0 x 36.6 mm without protrusions and weighs about 175 g without batteries or card. Power comes from two AA cells, either alkaline or nickel-metal hydride, and an optional AC adapter kit, ACK800, is listed. Recording goes to CompactFlash. A single focal length and AA power make it a plain, easy-to-understand starter camera from the early years of digital.

Buying one used

Powered by two AA cells, alkaline or nickel-metal hydride, so check the battery contacts for corrosion. Media is CompactFlash: test a card for recognition and writing. Also confirm the fixed lens extends cleanly and the 1.5-inch monitor shows no dead areas.
