About the Canon PowerShot S60
Released in June 2004, the Canon PowerShot S60 pairs a 1/1.8-inch CCD of about 5 megapixels with a 28-100 mm lens in 35mm terms, described as roughly 3.6x optical zoom. The 28 mm wide end was uncommon among compacts of the period and gives interiors and street scenes more room than the usual 35 mm starting point.
The 1.8-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT monitor offers 100% coverage. At 114 x 56.5 x 38.8 mm and about 230 g without battery or card, it is a solid, compact-sized body rather than a slim one. Power is the NB-2LH rechargeable lithium-ion pack supplied with the camera, with the ACK700 AC adapter kit offered separately. Recording goes to CompactFlash cards. The wide start of the zoom range is the feature that sets this model apart in its own series.
Buying one used
The battery is the NB-2LH lithium-ion pack: check that it holds a charge and that a charger is included. Recording is to CompactFlash, so test a card for reliable writes. Also verify smooth lens movement across 28-100 mm and inspect the 1.8-inch monitor.
