About the Canon IXY DIGITAL 450
The Canon IXY DIGITAL 450, released in March 2004, is a compact that records to CompactFlash rather than SD. Its 1/1.8-inch CCD sensor offers about 4 megapixels, and the lens covers 36-108 mm in 35mm terms, a 3x optical zoom.
The body measures 87.0 x 57.0 x 27.8 mm excluding protrusions and weighs about 185 g for the body alone. A 1.5-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT monitor offers 100% field of view. Power comes from an NB-1LH rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which was supplied with the camera, and the ACK500 AC adapter kit was sold separately. CompactFlash cards are larger than SD cards but were common among cameras of this generation, and they can still be found in card readers and older kits. The camera is a straightforward early digital compact with a standard 3x zoom and a sturdy body, suited to casual daylight shooting.
Buying one used
This camera uses an NB-1LH lithium-ion battery, so check that the pack holds a charge. It records to CompactFlash cards, so confirm a working card is available. Test the 3x lens movement and inspect the 1.5-inch monitor.
