About the Olympus VR-330
The Olympus VR-330, released in February 2011, is a travel-oriented compact with a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor of about 14 megapixels. Its 12.5x optical zoom spans 24-300 mm in 35mm terms at F3-5.9, so a wide 24 mm view and a long 300 mm reach sit in one lens.
The F3 opening at the wide end helps indoors. The body is 101 x 58 x 29 mm and weighs 158 g, light for a lens of this range. A 3-inch monitor is used for framing, and images are written to SD or SDHC cards. The dedicated LI-42B lithium-ion battery powers the camera. At full telephoto the aperture narrows to F5.9, so daylight is where the long end works best.
Buying one used
It uses the dedicated LI-42B lithium-ion battery, so verify that the pack holds a charge and a charger is included. Storage is SD or SDHC only. Run the 12.5x lens through its full range and inspect the 3-inch screen.
