About the Samsung DV300F
The Samsung DV300F is a compact released in January 2012. It uses a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor of about 16 megapixels behind a 5x optical zoom that runs 25-125 mm in 35mm terms. The maximum aperture of F2.5 at the wide end, narrowing to F6.3 at the long end, is relatively bright for a lens of this reach.
At 95 x 57 x 18 mm and 133 g, the body is slim enough for a jacket pocket. A 3-inch monitor is fitted, and images are stored on SD or SDHC cards. Power comes from a Lithium-Ion BP88 rechargeable battery supplied with a charger. The 125 mm telephoto end is modest, so the camera suits everyday snapshots, indoor scenes and portraits taken at close range rather than distant subjects. The F2.5 wide end gives a little extra room when the light drops in the evening.
Buying one used
The battery is the Lithium-Ion BP88, so confirm it holds a charge and that the charger is present. Storage is SD or SDHC only. Inspect the 3-inch screen and check that the lens extends smoothly.
