About the Samsung ST100
The Samsung ST100 is a compact released in January 2010. It has a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor of about 14 megapixels and a 5x optical zoom covering 35-175 mm in 35mm terms. The aperture range of F3.6-4.8 is narrow, so the lens does not darken much toward the telephoto end.
The wide end starts at 35 mm, a natural view for portraits and small subjects. The 3.5-inch monitor stands out on a slim body measuring 100 x 60 x 20 mm and weighing 155 g, since it fills much of the back panel. Images are saved to SD or SDHC cards, so SDXC cards are not part of the specification. The camera uses a dedicated rechargeable battery.
Buying one used
The camera takes a dedicated rechargeable battery, so check that a matching battery and charger are included. Storage is SD or SDHC. Inspect the large 3.5-inch screen for scratches and uneven display, and test the lens.
