About the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V
Sony released the Cyber-shot DSC-HX20V in February 2012 as a high-magnification travel compact. Behind its 20x optical lens, equal to 25-500 mm in 35mm terms and F3.2-5.8, sits a 1/2.3-inch BSI-CMOS sensor with 18 megapixels. Back-illuminated construction was the sensor design of choice for compacts of that moment, aimed at better results in dim conditions than older CCD designs.
The body measures 107 x 62 x 35 mm and weighs 254 g, making it among the heavier models of its generation, and it carries a 3-inch monitor. Power is supplied by the NP-BG1 lithium-ion battery, with SD, SDHC or SDXC cards for storage. It is a sensible choice for travel photography where one lens must cover scenery, street scenes and distant details.
Buying one used
Confirm the NP-BG1 battery still gives usable runtime, and extend the 20x lens to full zoom to check for grinding or sticking. Test an SD, SDHC or SDXC card and inspect the 3-inch monitor.
