About the Canon PowerShot A50
The Canon PowerShot A50 was released in April 1999 with a 1/2.7-inch CCD and a 28-70 mm lens in 35mm terms at F2.6, described as roughly 2.5x optical zoom. A 28 mm wide end in a 1999 compact is a clear strength, giving room for interiors and groups.
The body measures 103 x 68 x 37.3 mm and weighs about 260 g. It is powered by a 2CR5 lithium battery, and a dedicated nickel-metal hydride battery and a dedicated AC adapter were sold separately. Recording is to CompactFlash. Because it relies on a 2CR5 lithium cell, the battery is a more specialized item than AA cells, and an AC adapter is a practical way to run it indoors. The A50 is one of the early PowerShot A models, and its modest resolution suits small prints and web-sized images.
