About the Canon PowerShot ELPH 160 (IXUS 160)
Released in January 2015, the PowerShot ELPH 160 is the North American name for the model sold elsewhere as the IXUS 160, and the data also lists the Japanese name Canon IXY 150. It is a slim point-and-shoot with a 1/2.3-type CCD sensor of about 20 megapixels.
The 8x optical zoom covers 28-224 mm in 35mm-equivalent terms, with an aperture of F3.2-6.9, enough for everyday snapshots, family events and casual travel use. The body is only 95 x 54 x 22 mm and weighs about 127 g, which makes it easy to forget in a pocket. A 2.7-inch monitor is used for framing, the NB-11L lithium-ion battery powers it, and images are stored on SD, SDHC or SDXC cards.
Buying one used
Check that the NB-11L battery holds a charge and that the charger is included. Extend the 8x lens and watch for sticking or scratches, check the 2.7-inch monitor, and test the SD card slot.
