About the Olympus Stylus 840

The Olympus Stylus 840 arrived in January 2008 as a compact with a 1/2.35-type CCD of about 8 megapixels effective. Its lens covers 36-180 mm in 35 mm terms, a 5x optical zoom, with an aperture range of F3.5-5.

The body measures 96 x 57 x 24 mm and weighs about 170 g, with a 2.7-inch rear screen. It uses the LI-42B lithium-ion battery with a charger and records to xD-Picture Cards. Brightness drops only to F5 at the telephoto end, so the 5x range from 36 mm to 180 mm works well for everyday snapshots. The camera pairs a simple zoom range with a 2.7-inch screen for framing, and the included charger keeps the lithium-ion battery easy to manage.

Buying one used
