About the Olympus Stylus 850 SW
The Olympus Stylus 850 SW is a waterproof, tough compact released in January 2008. It pairs a 1/2.35-type CCD with about 8 effective megapixels and a 38-114 mm lens (35 mm equivalent, 3x optical zoom, F3.5-5).
The body measures 94 x 61 x 21 mm and weighs 176 g, with a 2.5-inch screen on the back. Power comes from the LI-42B lithium-ion battery, and images are saved to xD-Picture Cards. The 38 mm wide end and 114 mm telephoto end suit travel snapshots and group photos taken near the water. With only three times zoom and a simple point-and-shoot layout, it is easy to hand to family or friends on a day out, and the compact body slips into a bag or a jacket pocket without fuss.
Buying one used
The battery is the LI-42B and cards are xD-Picture Cards. As a tough compact, check the condition of the door seals, the front of the lens for scratches or fogging, and the 2.5-inch screen before buying.
