About the Olympus Stylus Tough TG-850 iHS
Olympus launched the Stylus Tough TG-850 iHS in January 2014 as a rugged compact with an unusually wide lens. The 21-105 mm-equivalent range with F3.5-5.7 aperture and 5x optical zoom sits in front of a 16-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch BSI-CMOS sensor. At 21 mm the view is wide enough for tight spaces, cave interiors, boat decks and group pictures, while 105 mm is enough for portraits and general travel framing.
The body measures 110 x 64 x 28 mm and weighs 218 g. A 3-inch monitor provides the view for shooting and review. Power is the LI-50B battery, and recording goes to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards. Used examples should be judged mainly on the condition of the sealed doors and the lens window.
Buying one used
Make sure the LI-50B battery charges and holds power. Inspect the battery and card door seals carefully, check the lens window for scratches or moisture, and test an SD, SDHC or SDXC card in the slot.
