About the Olympus TG-830 iHS
Introduced in January 2013, the Olympus TG-830 iHS is a rugged compact whose 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor delivers 16 megapixels. Its lens spans 28-140 mm in 35mm terms with 5x optical zoom and an aperture of F3.9-5.9, a modest range that suits outdoor snapshots, water-side visits and travel documentation.
The body measures 109 x 67 x 28 mm and weighs 214 g, a little larger and heavier than the slimmer tough models of the same generation. A 3-inch monitor handles framing and review. The LI-50B battery supplies power, and images are saved to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards. The key point for any secondhand example is the physical state of the seals and doors, since these provide the weather resistance.
Buying one used
Check that the LI-50B battery charges and holds power. Examine the battery and card door seals and the lens window for damage, and confirm an SD, SDHC or SDXC card is read and written correctly.
