The Olympus XZ-2 iHS, released in September 2012, is an enthusiast compact built around a 1/1.7-inch CMOS sensor with about 12 megapixels. Its 4x optical zoom covers 28-112 mm in 35mm-equivalent terms at a fast F1.8-2.5, an unusually bright aperture that favours dim interiors, portraits and shallow depth of field at the wide end.
The body measures 113 mm wide, 65 mm high and 48 mm deep and weighs about 346 g, which is heavier than a pocket snapshooter but suits a more deliberate style of shooting. The 3-inch monitor assists composition. Power is supplied by the LI-90B battery, and files are saved to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards.
