About the Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ1000 II
The Lumix DC-FZ1000 II, released in February 2019, is a travel superzoom built around a 1-inch BSI-CMOS sensor with roughly 20 megapixels. Its 16x optical zoom covers 25-400 mm in 35mm-equivalent terms, with an aperture of F2.8-4, so the lens stays fairly bright across the range.
That combination suits distant subjects, street scenes and travel snapshots where a much larger sensor than a typical compact is welcome. The body is a proper bridge-style design at 136 x 97 x 132 mm and about 808 g, so it is a camera to carry on a strap rather than in a pocket. A 3-inch monitor handles framing and playback. Power comes from the DMW-BLC12 lithium-ion battery, and images are saved to SD, SDHC or SDXC cards.
Buying one used
Check that the DMW-BLC12 battery still holds a charge and that the charger is included. Run the 16x zoom through its full travel, watching for grinding or soft corners, and test the 3-inch monitor and the SD card slot.
