About the Samsung CL65 (ST1000)
The Samsung CL65 (ST1000), launched in September 2008, is a slim CCD compact that puts a 3.5-inch screen on the back. The sensor is a 1/2.33-type CCD of about 12 megapixels, and the lens is a 5x optical zoom at F3.6-4.8, covering 35-175 mm in 35 mm terms.
The body is only 19 mm thick, at 100 x 61 x 19 mm and 176 g, which is a neat package for a lens that reaches 175 mm. The large display gives plenty of room for framing and for reviewing shots. Memory is SD or SDHC, and a dedicated lithium-ion battery provides power. With a high pixel count packed onto a small sensor, it is better treated as a camera for everyday records and travel snapshots than for pixel-peeping at full size.
Buying one used
The 3.5-inch screen is the part to inspect for scratches, uneven display and touch response. Also check that the dedicated lithium-ion battery is present and holds charge, that SD or SDHC cards register, and that the 5x zoom moves smoothly.
