The Samsung NV9 (TL9) was released in July 2008 as a compact with a telephoto-leaning lens: 38-190 mm equivalent, F3.7-4.9, a 5x optical zoom. A 1/2.33-type CCD of about 10 megapixels sits behind it, and the screen is 2.7 inches.
With the wide end at 38 mm, it is better matched to pulling subjects closer, such as portraits and distant details, than to wide interiors. The body is 95 x 60 x 21 mm and weighs 180 g, which is easy to carry for a 5x zoom model and still leaves a little grip. It runs on a dedicated lithium-ion battery and saves to SD or SDHC cards. The 2.7-inch screen is enough for framing at the 190 mm end.
