About the Canon PowerShot SD770 IS (Digital IXUS 85 IS)
Sold in some regions as the Digital IXUS 85 IS, the Canon PowerShot SD770 IS arrived in March 2008. It pairs a 1/2.3-type CCD of about 10 effective megapixels with a 35-105 mm equivalent lens, a 3x optical zoom opening at F2.8 and closing to F4.9.
With a 35 mm wide end and F2.8 at that setting, it handles indoor snapshots comfortably. The screen is 2.5 inches, and the body measures 86 x 54 x 20 mm at about 170 g, so it slips easily into a pocket. It uses the dedicated NB-6L lithium-ion battery and records to SD or SDHC cards. The 20 mm thickness is what keeps it so small. The 10-megapixel resolution is generous for prints and screen viewing of everyday scenes, while the 105 mm telephoto end covers casual portraits.
Buying one used
The battery is the dedicated NB-6L; look at its condition and whether a charger is included. Check SD/SDHC card recognition, the lens moving in and out, and the 2.5-inch screen for scratches or uneven display.
