About the Samsung SL30 (ES15)
Released in February 2009, the Samsung SL30 (ES15) pairs a 38-114mm equivalent optical 3x zoom with an aperture of F2.8 at the wide end, narrowing to F5.7 at full telephoto. The sensor is a 1/2.33-inch CCD of about 10 megapixels, and the monitor is a modest 2.5-inch LCD. The body measures 94 x 61 x 23mm and weighs 140g, which keeps it light for a camera with a 3x lens. Starting at 38mm, the field of view suits half-length and full-length portraits better than cramped interiors. Images are written to SD / SDHC cards, and power comes from a dedicated battery pack. Its 140g weight makes it easy to carry all day, and because the screen is small, checking focus afterwards on a computer is the safer habit.
Buying one used
Read the code stamped on the battery pack and check that a charger is included. Check the small 2.5-inch LCD, SD / SDHC reading and lens extension.
