About the Samsung SL620 (PL65)
The Samsung SL620 (PL65) is a February 2009 compact with a telephoto-leaning 5x optical zoom. The lens covers 35-175mm in 35mm-equivalent terms at F2.8-5.7, so it reaches distant subjects such as sports days or zoo animals, while it is not especially wide at the short end. A 1/2.33-inch CCD of about 12 megapixels records the image, and a 2.7-inch LCD sits on the back. Despite the zoom range, the body stays slim at 92 x 61 x 23mm and 168g. The aperture narrows to F5.7 at full telephoto, so indoor shots at 175mm call for a steady hold. Images are saved to SD / SDHC cards, and power comes from a dedicated battery.
Buying one used
Run the 5x lens through its full travel to hear any grinding. Read the code on the dedicated battery and confirm a charger is included. SD / SDHC cards are used.
