About the Samsung TL500 (EX1)
The Samsung TL500 (EX1), released in February 2010, is a compact digital camera with a relatively large 1/1.7-inch CCD sensor of about 10 megapixels. Its lens covers 24-72 mm in 35mm terms at F1.8-2.4, a 3x optical zoom, and it stays at F2.4 even at the telephoto end.
The monitor is 3 inches, images go to SD or SDHC cards, and the battery is a dedicated SLB-07A. At 114 x 63 x 29 mm and 386 g, it is far bigger and heavier than a typical pocket compact. The sensor size combined with the F1.8 wide end suits dim scenes and shallow depth of field, while the 72 mm limit is a deliberate trade-off.
Buying one used
The battery is the dedicated SLB-07A. At 386 g the body is heavy, so check the lens barrel and grip for wear. Test the F1.8-2.4 lens movement, the 3-inch screen, and SD or SDHC recording.
