About the Samsung TL220 (ST500)
The Samsung TL220 (ST500) was released in August 2009. It pairs a 1/2.33-inch CCD of about 12 million pixels with a 27-124.2 mm (35mm equivalent) lens at F3.5-5.9, a 4.6x optical zoom that reaches 124.2mm at the long end.
The body measures 100 x 60 x 19 mm and weighs 169 g, and it carries a 3-inch LCD. The F3.5 maximum aperture at the wide end is on the dim side, so indoor shooting means keeping an eye on sensitivity. Power comes from the dedicated SLB-07A lithium-ion battery with charger, and images are saved to SD / SDHC cards. The long 124.2mm end offers more reach than a 3x zoom would, which helps with distant subjects.
Buying one used
The battery is the SLB-07A, so check for a spare and for how long a charge lasts. Cards are SD / SDHC. Test the 4.6x lens as it extends and retracts, and look at the 3-inch LCD.
