About the Samsung HZ30W (WB600)
The Samsung HZ30W (WB600) is a travel-oriented high-zoom compact released in January 2010. It combines a 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor of about 12 megapixels with a 15x optical zoom covering 24-360 mm in 35mm terms, with an aperture range of F3.2-5.8.
The 24 mm wide end helps with group shots, streets and buildings, while 360 mm brings distant subjects closer, so one camera covers a wide span. In exchange, the body is larger than a slim compact at 107 x 61 x 28 mm and 245 g. It has a 3-inch monitor and accepts SD, SDHC and SDXC cards. Power comes from a Lithium-Ion SLB-11A rechargeable battery with a charger. Hold it steadily at the long end, where camera shake is more noticeable.
Buying one used
The battery is the Lithium-Ion SLB-11A, so check that a charger is included. SD, SDHC and SDXC cards are supported. Test the long 15x lens barrel as it extends and retracts, and inspect the 3-inch screen.
