About the Kodak EasyShare M381
The Kodak EasyShare M381 is a July 2009 compact built around a 1/2.33-inch CCD with about 12 megapixels. Its lens covers 35-175 mm in 35mm-equivalent terms, a 5x optical zoom, with an aperture of F3-4.8. Because the wide end starts at 35 mm, it suits ordinary snapshots better than cramped interiors, while the 175 mm end reaches distant subjects.
The body measures 101 x 60 x 20 mm and weighs 153 g, and the 20 mm depth keeps it slim for carrying. A 3-inch LCD handles framing and review. Images are recorded to SD or SDHC cards, and power comes from the dedicated KLIC-7003 lithium-ion battery. The CCD design and SD card slot are typical of compacts from this period, so the practical checks are the battery and the lens.
Buying one used
The M381 runs on the KLIC-7003 lithium-ion battery, so check that the battery holds a charge and that a charger is included. It records to SD or SDHC cards. Inspect the 3-inch LCD and make sure the 5x zoom extends smoothly.
