About the Kodak EasyShare Z980
The Kodak EasyShare Z980, introduced in January 2009, is a long-zoom travel compact. A 1/2.33-type CCD with about 12 megapixels sits behind a 26-624 mm equivalent lens at F2.8-5, a 24x optical zoom that runs from wide-angle to extreme telephoto in a single camera.
That range comes with size: the body is 124 x 91 x 105 mm and 445 g. It is powered by four AA batteries, with NiMH rechargeables listed. The screen is 3 inches and cards are SD or SDHC. The F2.8 aperture at the 26 mm end is the brightest setting; at full telephoto the lens stops at F5. With 26 mm at one end and 624 mm at the other, one body can cover a street scene and a distant landmark during the same outing.
Buying one used
It uses four AA batteries, so check the battery contacts and how long your rechargeables last. Test the 24x zoom through its full travel, then confirm SD or SDHC recognition and the 3-inch screen.
