About the Samsung TL240 (ST5000)
The Samsung TL240 (ST5000) arrived in January 2010 with a 1/2.3-type CCD of about 14 megapixels and a 31-217 mm equivalent lens at F3.3-5.5, a 7x optical zoom. The screen is 3.5 inches, and the body measures 104 x 58 x 20 mm at 160 g.
Fitting a 7x zoom into a body only 20 mm thick gives it more reach than 3x slim cameras of the same year. At 217 mm the maximum aperture is F5.5, so holding the camera steady matters when you zoom in. The wide end of 31 mm is moderate rather than especially wide. The dedicated battery is the SLB-11A, and images are stored on SD or SDHC cards.
Buying one used
Battery type is the dedicated SLB-11A. Zoom the 7x lens fully in and out to listen for grinding or sticking, check the 3.5-inch screen, and confirm SD or SDHC cards are recognized.
