About the Canon PowerShot S50
The Canon PowerShot S50, released in March 2003, uses a 1/1.8-inch CCD of about 5 megapixels behind a 35-105 mm lens in 35mm terms, described as roughly 3x optical zoom. It is the highest-resolution model of its S-series line, and the extra resolution is the headline feature.
A 1.8-inch low-temperature polysilicon TFT monitor with 100% coverage serves for framing and playback. The body measures 112 x 58 x 42 mm without protrusions and weighs about 260 g without battery or card, a chunky shape that leaves room for a proper grip. Power is the NB-2L lithium-ion pack included in the box; an ACK700 AC adapter kit was sold separately. Images are recorded to CompactFlash cards. The S50 suits someone who wants a manual-friendly S-series body with a conventional 3x zoom range rather than a slim fashion compact.
Buying one used
Powered by the NB-2L lithium-ion battery that came with the camera: check its charge retention and whether a charger is included. Media is CompactFlash, so test card writing. Inspect the lens extension and the 1.8-inch monitor.
